“Scentral Park” Dog Park

scentral-park-01In 2012, after four years of planning and fundraising, the Darke County Friends of the Shelter broke ground for Scentral Park dog park. To find a name for the dog park, we had a contest and the community submitted over 165 names, of which “Scentral Park” was chosen by a committee. We celebrated the Grand Opening on Saturday, March 23, 2013 with many elected county and state officials attending.

The realization of this big project would not have been possible without the help and donations of local businesses and private donors. Every single dollar helped to accomplish the goal of building a dog park. It was a community effort: for the community, by the community and the Darke County Friends of the Shelter want to thank everyone who helped make it a reality.

“Scentral Park” is over 2 acres in size and features walking trails, off leash areas for small and large dogs, seating benches, and ample parking. The Park is open from daylight to dark and is available to all. Rules are posted for everyone to follow.

The Darke County Friends of the Shelter will continue to improve the park with more features and also maintain the park as funds become available. To cover all these expenses, the organization will hold fundraisers (please check the menu “Our Fundraisers”) and donations are also appreciated.

In August 2014 we added Shade Umbrellas to the dog park. Erisman Excavation installed them with concrete provided by Pepcon Concrete. A big “Thank You” to Erisman and Pepcon for donating the labor and concrete. The Shade Umbrellas are a wonderful addition to the Park.
